Melania Trump has shown great humanity in Paris: First lady speaks French with sick children, leaves president behind

First lady Melania Trump continued her overseas tradition of visiting sick children in hospitals on Thursday when she made an appearance at Necker Hospital in Paris.

President Trump and the first lady are scheduled to be in France for two days, where the U.S. president will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and attend a Bastille Day celebration.

Leaving her husband behind, the first lady took to a children’s ward of the Paris hospital on Thursday where she met some little ones of varying ages.

Melania spoke briefly in French to six children who were in a room decorated with images from the famous book, “The Little Prince.”

After introducing herself and asking how they were in French, the first lady switched to using a translator to continue the exchange.

 

Melania later tweeted out an image from her visit with the children.

The first lady has in recent months made a concerted public effort to fit in time with children at events both foreign and domestic. From reading with children at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll to visiting with students at multiple schools, Melania Trump appears set on addressing the needs of children from varying backgrounds. Even while abroad during her lengthy foreign trip with President Trump, she stopped by both Queen Fabiola University Hospital in Brussels and Bambino Gesu in Rome where she snapped photos and visited with sick children.
